Camplin was founded by Edgard Camplin in 1850 with a few Navy supplies stores based in London and Portsmouth, it wasn't until 1888 that Camplin would supply uniforms to the Royal Navy. Charles Camplin (Edgards brother) then began to develop Naval uniforms for the Royal Navy's most important colonial campaigns. Each peacoat today is finished with a blue and green tape in homage to the Naval general service medal that was awarded to Charles Camplin for his service to the Royal Navy.
